Factory Trawlers Pacific Pipe & Pump has been involved with the north pacific factory trawler fleet since our company started in 1994. Factory Trawlers are highly effective catcher/processing vessels ranging from 100' to 376' in length. They mainly target Alaskan Pollock, a white fish used to produce high quality fish fillets used in fish & chips and fish sandwiches, and Surimi, a paste used in the U.S. for imitation crab meat. Length of time from catch to finished product, frozen and packaged usually is no more than 6-8 hours. This ensures the highest possible quality product. Conventional time line for land based production can be as much as 24-72 hours from catch to package. The strict control of fisheries in the North Pacific ground fish stock has greatly contributed to the increase in biomass.
According to the United Nations, the Bering Sea Pollock fisheries is the cleanest fisheries in the world. This is attributed to the fact that Pollock is caught in the middle of the water column. Mid-Water fishing does not disturb the marine environment on the bottom.
